Homemade Facial Masks

Good Morning DIVAS, did you know that you can use basic ingredients found around the house to make your own facial masks? (yeah yeah, I know we really aren't the do-it-yourself type chicks but a day at the spa is NOT always in the budget - ESPECIALLY when you have a shoe addiction!!) Don't worry, they are VERY simple.....we'll call it Home Facial Masks for Dummies!!! (LOL, just a joke so don't get your panties and Spanx in a bunch) I have found a few recipes (one sounds CRAZY and you all will think that I have lost my MIND, lol) that can be used in the comfort of your own home! All masks (homemade or not) should stay on the skin for 10-15 minutes and should be followed up with cleansing and moisturizing. (WOW, 600 hours in beauty school for skincare and that's the most important thing they taught us......REFUND PLEASE) Let's start with the crazy one first!!!

All Skin Types - Homemade Cat Litter Mask

*Beauty experts SWEAR that kitty litter is made of the same ingredients as special clays found in the $500 spa facials......I tried it 2 years ago and continue to LOVE it! (I do it twice a month)

Ingredients:
1 bag cat litter (must be marked '100 Percent Natural Clay')
Water
Drops of your favorite essential oil

Instructions:
Mix in a couple tablespoons of the cat litter with water and drops of essential oil (oil helps make the experience somehow less kitty litter-ish...MEOW) Apply mask to face and wash off after 15 minutes.

Acne-Prone Skin
Ingredients:
2-3 large carrots
4 1/2 tablespoons honey

Instructions:
Cook carrots, then mash. Mix with honey. Apply gently to the skin, wait 10 minutes and rinse off with cool water.

Oily Skin
Ingredients:
1 banana, preferably ripe (you can keep ripe bananas in the freezer. Let it thaw before using)
1 tbsp honey
An orange or a lemon

Instructions:
Mix the banana and honey together, add a few drops of juice from an orange or a lemon, and apply to face for 15 minutes before rinsing with a cool washcloth or a steaming warm washcloth.

Combination Skin
Ingredients:
6 fresh rose petals (optional but will certainly give you that Spa at the Short Hills hilton feel)
2 tbps rosewater
1 tbsp natural yogurt, room temperature (not lowfat or non-fat)
1 tbsp runny honey (to get honey runny, you can warm it in a microwave for a few seconds).

Instructions:
Soak rose petals, then crush them in a bowl. Add the rosewater, yogurt and honey.Mix well and apply to the skin. Leave on for 10 minutes and then rinse.

Dry Skin (classic mask)
Ingredients:
1 tsp powdered milk
1 tbsp runny honey
1 tsp aloe vera gel
2 drops essential oil

Instructions:
Mix ingredients well, apply to face, let sit for 15 minutes, wash off with warm water. This recipe is enough for two applications. (Note: The original recipe called for 1 tbsp pulverized almonds, but I have removed it from the ingredients list because almonds, no matter how pulverized, can tear at skin and I am NOT Martha Stewart so the hell with pulverizing almonds)

Sensitive Skin
Ingredients:
1 cup natural yogurt (we like it just-out-of-the-fridge cold)
½ cup oatmeal (any type of basic oatmeal works here)

Instructions:
Mix the ingredients together, apply to the skin for 10-15 minutes.Wash off mask with a washcloth steamed in the microwave (careful that it's not too hot)

I expect everyone to have perfectly balanced skin by the end of the month after using these masks! If you prefer to purchase masks instead of making them (party poopers), feel free to check out: http://www.marykay.com/passionforpretty/default.aspx and try out one of these FABULOUS masks. (shamelss plug)

Until Monday (I am off tomorrow)-Smmoches, Quick Claps, and Much Love-
Erin
